Humanity rejects those who don't meet our standards of wealth, beauty or glamour. We glorify soldiers but disregard veterans. We glamorize rugged individuals but bully those who are different. We marginalize and stigmatize those we see as “other.”
My work uses re-purposed materials, found objects and discarded items to challenge the viewer to find the beauty in these materials and appreciate their contribution to the composition, offering a lesson in how to value the dignity and contributions of people we would normally disregard.
I seek to address beauty in an image-obsessed society and challenge its rigid and narrow definition that has permeated our collective consciousness and the role it plays in assessing value.
My work promotes creativity, resourcefulness, ingenuity and thrift as alternatives to the instant gratification mindset of consumer society and addresses the role this plays in the way we treat our environment, our fellow human beings and the things around us.
