I have been making artwork for more than 30 years. In that time, I have produced a body of commercial and fine art that includes both commissioned and self-directed work. Some of the mediums I have enjoyed working with are sculpture, drawing, painting, mural painting and graphic art. My truest passion though is creating unique and inspired sculpture in a variety of materials.
I prefer to work out my concepts in clay so that I'm free to easily make changes as my vision for the sculpture evolves. A mold, and often times multiple molds, of the artwork is then made from that clay original. Subsequently, a permanent and durable medium is chosen and then cast into the molds to produce the final artwork. There are a number of casting mediums that I use and I choose the medium that is best suited for the nature of the particular artwork and which will also allow me to manipulate the final properties and appearance of the piece.
For The Angel and the Demon, I chose to cast this piece in Forton MG. Forton is a Modified Gypsum Casting System that is used by artists as well as builders and architects to produce specialized intricate building and architectural details. It is a strong and versatile medium that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. And because the system uses specialty reinforcement fibers as part of the casting matrix, pieces are relatively thin shelled, lightweight but very strong.
This artwork is a completely unique. It is a one-of-a-kind piece, and the molds that were used to create it were destroyed after it was completed.
