Displaying artwork at Ardmore Cafe
I'm an art teacher at Lakeview High School, I teach the students and use my art work as examples and hope to inspire them in their work. This year I started a new book series based on the art teacher and the different art lessons. I worked on a altered book piece call the "Still Life" that teaches a student how to draw a simple still life and the other show how to coil weave a basket. I teach the students how to make paper from plants and pull a sheet of paper. I them demonstrate what other things we can do with paper and paper pulp. "The Cube" is string is wrapped in and around a wood frame them paper pulp is screened out of the vat and dropped on to the frame. The process takes weeks to layer wet sheets of paper pulp on top and on all sides of the cube and let it dry before the next couple of layers are added.
The other use with sheets of wet paper pulp is to create an embossment. I use modeling clay to create a shallow relief sculpture and lay a sheet of handmade paper over the clay and press the paper down over the form. "The Dragonfly on a Ginkgo" is my example for the students to use for inspiration. The "Dragonfly Quilt is my first, the dragonfly part of the quilt is a batik. I used paste and color dye to create the image of the two dragonflies painting on the dye, layering the dye and paste together. This work is still in progress at the time of the deadline, I wanted to include it for judging as it will be finished in just a few days.
