I am innately drawn to the theme of nature; the colors, seasons, changing of light, and the sheer beauty. With today's chaos and negativity in the world around us I feel that stepping back into nature is a way for me to battle the issues that weigh so heavily upon the world and upon me. Many of the horrific events that are happening around the globe are man-made, and I combat this with the opposite. Through my work, I strive to evoke a moment of peace, curiosity and wonder. I seek to enhance the experience further by exaggerating my color palette with unnatural, saturated tones.
There is a geometric element to my work that is another battle within itself. In today's society we have access to everything in HD with immense detail and clarity. Although we live in a high-def world, my style abstracts reality and eliminates these details and gives the viewer a break from the 21st century clarity. Yet, maybe it is just pixilated...
I am from South Lyon, MI and currently reside in Romulus, MI. However, I began my journey as an artist while living on the island of Kauai. I studied under a master palette knife artist, Giorgio Naranjo, the palette knife is what I use exclusively to create my work.
I actively exhibit my work throughout the Midwest and my work can be found in many, private, corporate, and public art collections. My semi-representational landscapes can be found on permanent public display in Royal Oak, Howell, Novi, Romulus, and Michigan City (IN). Furthermore, I have won several awards including “People’s Choice” and also 1st place in juried competitions. I am also a featured artist on Detroit Public Television’s “Detroit Performs”, a program about arts and culture. I am represented by The Northville Gallery and River's Edge Gallery.
