I grew up in a very creative family, my grandmother a painter, father an architect, mother a whimsical creator of oddities. I have melded all of these influences along with a rich ancestry into my paintings. I pull most of my inspiration from the art and architecture of the early 20th century. The power and elegance that was so apparent in the creative works at that time speaks to my love of beauty and strength.
The imagery is reminiscent of much folk art with its symbolism, and reliance upon myth and legends of our past to create stories for the future.
Each piece is created using many soft layers of color to create a base. Upon this base I use miniscule brushes to add the minute details and line work, this can take days to complete.
My goal for each piece is to have the viewer feel the sun shining through as though it were a window. I want the onlooker to feel as though you are seeing a part of a story played out in the heavens. As churches did in the past with their stained glass windows that evoked a message of beauty and grace, so do I wish to create a feeling that there is something mythical within our world still, that there is mystery and beauty.
